Ephesians 1:17 prays for the “spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.” This is the essence of our spiritual renewal—the more we grow in knowledge of God, the more we understand His will for our lives, and with that understanding comes the strength to carry out His purpose. But what is understanding, and how do we cultivate it?

Seek Understanding:
Understanding, in the context of our spiritual journey, means a deeper grasp of God’s truth, and His Word. Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” His Word illuminates the way, and it is our piety—our devotion to Him—that draws us closer to that light.

Fear of the Lord:
