Understanding Baptism and Obedience

The Signific Import of Baptism in The Holy Spirit

Discover the profound meaning behind baptism and the call to obey Jesus’ words as revealed in Romans 6:3 and John 15:14-16. Dive deep into the spiritual transformation that occurs when one is baptized into the body of Jesus and the importance of living a life in accordance with His teachings.

YOUR GIFTED SPIRITUAL POTENTIAL IN ALL GLORY

YOU IN JESUS; Empowered by the Holy Spirit

The baptism with the Holy Spirit is a distinct experience from salvation, occurring simultaneously at the moment of salvation. It is not a separate event that takes place after conversion.

Believers receive all they need in Christ. Upon salvation, they become whole in Him, lacking nothing. There is nothing more that He has to offer us.

Believers are not required to seek any additional blessing for power, as all power is already accessible.

The power of the Holy Spirit working in a person’s life is truly something to be desired. For those who have genuinely experienced the Spirit’s power, they often refer to it as the baptism with the Holy Spirit, while the Scripture refers to this encounter as the filling of the Holy Spirit. As mentioned before, everything has already been provided for us upon conversion, and all we need to do is to appropriate what God has graciously done for us.

Establishing two separate and distinct baptisms is questionable given the biblical references that point to the unity of the activity. Acts 2:33 and Ephesians 4:5 emphasize the singular nature of baptism, reflecting Christ’s work through the Spirit’s ministry to unite believers with the body of Christ. The involvement of different Persons of the Trinity in this work highlights the cohesiveness and importance of this sacrament in the life of the church.

It is generally agreed that the references in the gospels look forward to the baptism with the Holy Spirit occurring at the Day of Pentecost. The references in Acts point back to the fulfillment. This being the case, the reference in 1 Corinthians 12:13 seemingly gives the doctrinal explanation of what occurred. Though it is possible to see two separate baptisms, it seems better to understand all the references explaining the same experience in more depth and detail.

Two Baptisms?

Some individuals who hold the belief that the baptism with the Holy Spirit is a subsequent experience post-salvation interpret Scripture as referring to two distinct baptisms. They argue that 1 Corinthians 12:13 discusses the baptism by the Spirit that places believers into the body of Christ, with the Holy Spirit being the one who baptizes believers into Christ’s body. According to them, the Book of Acts describes the baptism by Christ to position individuals within the realm of the Holy Spirit. They maintain that the initial baptism occurs during conversion and is encountered by all believers, while the second baptism takes place after conversion and imparts power to the believer. This perspective asserts that all believers have been baptized by the Spirit, though not all have been baptized in the Spirit.

People who contend that each believer needs a second experience subsequent to salvation to give him power. Many refer to this salvation experience as the baptism with the Holy Spirit. Scripture is Truth; Understand the baptism with the Holy Spirit as a non-experiential work that happens to the believer when he trusts Christ.

Experience the abundance of every spiritual blessing that surrounds you, guiding and nurturing your soul with divine love and wisdom. Embrace the infinite grace and blessings that flow effortlessly into your life, filling your heart with peace and joy. Allow the universe to shower you with blessings beyond measure, illuminating your path with light and purpose. Open your heart to receive the boundless blessings that await you, transforming your journey with grace and abundance. Let the power of spiritual blessings uplift and empower you, leading you towards fulfillment and harmony in every aspect of your being.

Every spiritual blessing has been given us by God through Jesus Christ. Scripture never commands believers they must seek a second blessing after salvation. The Apostle Paul told the Ephesians:

Advocates of the perspective that the “baptism with the Holy Spirit” is a distinct experience from becoming a Christian present various arguments. The main arguments point to the Book of Acts as the source for supporting this belief, emphasizing that the baptism with the Holy Spirit is a separate encounter after salvation. It is commonly understood that receiving the Holy Spirit is not the same as the baptism with the Holy Spirit, with the latter providing believers with power for service. Paul’s words to the Romans highlight the necessity of the Holy Spirit in a person’s faith in Christ, reinforcing the significance of this spiritual encounter.
The Purpose of the Baptism with the Spirit Is to Equip Believers with Divine Power for Effective Ministry and Service to Others. This empowerment, received through a spiritual experience, enables individuals to carry out the work of spreading the message of faith, demonstrating love, and bringing healing and hope to those in need. It is through this baptism that believers are strengthened and guided to fulfill their calling and make a positive impact in the world around them, bringing about transformation and renewal.

The baptism with the Holy Spirit empowers believers to serve the Lord. The promise of the Father is geared towards serving the cause of Christ, rather than for eternal life regeneration. Throughout Scripture, the Holy Spirit is depicted as coming upon individuals to equip them with the power for service, rather than for the purpose of saving them from their sins.

The Argument Supporting the Baptism with the Spirit as a Distinct Experience from Salvation

The baptizing work of the Holy Spirit is a distinct and separate action of God, not tied to one’s initial salvation. This process involves a deeper, more personal connection with the divine, enhancing the spiritual journey and reinforcing one’s faith in God. Through the Holy Spirit’s baptism, individuals can experience a profound sense of renewal and empowerment, guiding them on a path of spiritual growth and understanding. This divine work transcends mere salvation, delving into the depths of the soul and fostering a closer relationship with God.

The examples in the New Testament demonstrate that receiving the power of the Holy Spirit is often experienced as a second blessing following salvation.
First Corinthians 12:13 speaks of another baptism – not the baptism with the Holy Spirit. This refers to the symbolic act of being baptized into one body, whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free, through the Spirit.

The distinction Scripture makes between believers who are learned and unlearned is an important aspect to consider when studying its teachings. Understanding the significance of this differentiation can provide deeper insights into the messages and lessons that are conveyed to individuals of varying levels of knowledge and understanding. By recognizing and embracing this distinction, believers can enhance their spiritual growth and connection to the teachings of Scripture, ultimately enriching their faith and relationship with the divine.

The individuals eagerly anticipated encountering a profound transformation following their decision to commit their lives to Christ. They longed for a life-changing experience that would validate their faith and bring them closer to their spiritual journey.

The transformative impact of receiving the Holy Spirit through baptism is evident in the powerful personal experiences shared by those who have encountered this divine gift.

These are commonly presented reasons for the belief that the baptism with the Holy Spirit is considered a subsequent blessing that follows initial conversion. Advocates of this perspective often point to biblical passages and personal testimonies to support their viewpoint, emphasizing the empowerment, spiritual gifts, and deeper intimacy with God that can come with this experience. The concept of a second blessing is seen as a way to deepen one’s relationship with God and live a more spiritually empowered life.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ (Ephesians 1:3).

God has also made us complete in Christ, providing us with everything we need for a fulfilling and purposeful life. Through Christ, we are empowered to overcome challenges, find strength in times of weakness, and experience true peace and joy. Embracing this truth allows us to live with confidence, knowing that we are accepted and loved unconditionally by our Creator. Let us rest in the assurance that we are valued, cherished, and destined for greatness in Christ.

For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power (Colossians 2:9,10).

Peter wrote:

. . . His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue (2 Peter 1:3).

Believers should still yearn to embrace the fullness of God’s Spirit in their lives. Each believer has been bestowed with all blessings, yet it is our duty and honor to actively incorporate them into our daily existence. Jesus emphasized the significance of the Holy Spirit’s power.

He who believes in Me, as the Word has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified (John 7:38-39).

Differing viewpoints exist regarding the idea of the “baptism with the Holy Spirit” as a subsequent experience post-salvation, with various arguments being presented. Some believe that this experience is a powerful encounter with the Holy Spirit that empowers believers for ministry, while others view it as a symbolic act of spiritual cleansing and renewal. The debate continues to spark discussions within religious communities, with scholars and theologians offering their insights on the significance and implications of this spiritual practice.

The Book of Acts provides biblical evidence that the baptism with the Holy Spirit is a distinct experience following salvation. The gospels do not directly address this concept, while the New Testament letters were written to churches already acquainted with the Spirit’s power.

The baptism with the Holy Spirit is a unique experience that goes beyond simply receiving the Holy Spirit. In his letter to the Romans, the Apostle Paul made it clear that the presence of the Holy Spirit is essential for true believers.

As a believer in Jesus Christ, it is crucial to have the Holy Spirit dwelling within you. Trusting in Christ as Savior and inviting the Holy Spirit into your life are foundational components of being a Christian, as emphasized by the Apostle Paul in Romans 8:11.

Since every believer has already received the Holy Spirit, the baptism with the Spirit provides them with the power needed for service. It is through this particular operation of the Holy Spirit that believers are equipped to fulfill their calling and purpose. This empowerment enables them to actively live out their faith, serve others with love and compassion, and make a positive impact in their communities. By embracing the power of the Holy Spirit, believers can confidently step into their roles as ambassadors of Christ, bringing hope, healing, and transformation to those around them.

The Essence of Baptism

Baptism: A Step Towards Salvation

In Romans 6:3, Paul speaks of a baptism that transcends the physical act of water immersion. This baptism occurs when an individual repents and accepts Jesus as their Savior, symbolizing their death to sin and rebirth in Christ. It is a pivotal moment in a believer’s journey, marking their entry into the body of Christ and the beginning of a transformed life. Understanding this spiritual baptism is crucial for comprehending the full scope of Christian salvation and the profound change it brings.

Paul’s reference to baptism in Romans 6:3 is not about water but about a spiritual immersion into Christ’s death. This act signifies the believer’s union with Jesus, where their old sinful self is crucified with Him, and they rise anew, free from the bondage of sin. This transformation is immediate upon repentance and acceptance of Jesus, highlighting the necessity of this spiritual baptism for true salvation and a new life in Christ.

Romans 6:4
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

Baptism, a sacred sacrament of the new testament ordained by Jesus, (Matthew 28:19); serves as a solemn admission into the visible Church. (1 Colossians 12:13); It also acts as a sign and seal of the covenant of grace, (Rom 4:11; Colossians 2:11-12); symbolizing the individual’s engrafting into Christ, (Galatians 3:27; Romans 6:5); regeneration, (Titus 3:5); remission of sins, (Mark 1:4); and commitment to walk in newness of life through Jesus Christ. (Romans 6:3-4) This sacrament, established by Jesus himself, is to be continued in His Church; the body, until the end of the world. (Matthew 28:19-20).

James 1:21
“Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.”

Amplifying Divine Salvations Manifestations

JOURNEY OF THE SOUL

Colossians 2:6–15
“In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:”

In Colossians 2, Paul warns Christians not to be deceived by enticing but empty arguments. Claims of self-denial, legalism, visions, and other practices may seem appealing, but they lack true spiritual substance. Paul stresses that Christ has provided everything necessary for our justification before God, rendering these false pursuits unnecessary. Let us focus on following Jesus, the true source of spiritual growth.

This Chapter describes Christ’s superior power in defeating sin, highlighting the stark contrast with the world’s inability to overcome it. Paul urges the Colossians to avoid being misled by deceitful arguments and emphasizes the profound impact of salvation. Those who place their trust in Christ undergo a spiritual circumcision from sin and are united with God through their faith, evident by the Holy Spirit’s presence. Through God’s act of forgiveness, believers are liberated from the everlasting consequences of sin, their relationship is restored, and the forces of evil are conquered.

Lay aside all impurity and wickedness, and accept the word of truth humbly, which has the power to save your souls. Remember to not only listen to the word but to also act upon it, otherwise you are deceiving yourself. Just hearing the word without doing what it says is like looking at your reflection and then forgetting what you look like.

MIRRORING THE MASTER'S PATH

EMULATING CHRIST'S EXAMPLE

The life of Jesus Christ serves as a model for all believers, as underscored by John the Apostle in his message to the believers.

He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. (1 John 2:6).
Therefore, it is essential for believers to emulate the life of Jesus Christ to the best of their ability. We are called to mirror His actions, attitudes, and character in our own lives, using His example as a guide for our own behavior and decisions. Jesus’ life serves as a model for how we should strive to live, offering us a blueprint for moral conduct and spiritual growth that can lead us closer to him.

Jesus, the Son of God, was miraculously conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit, fulfilling the prophetic promise of his divine origin. This incredible event highlights the unique nature of Jesus as the Savior of mankind, demonstrating God’s ultimate plan for salvation through his only begotten Son. The immaculate conception of Jesus showcases the extraordinary power and presence of the Holy Spirit in bringing forth the Messiah, who would ultimately redeem humanity through his sacrificial love and grace.

The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ, God the Son, was miraculously conceived by the Holy Spirit. The Gospel of Matthew vividly portrays His humble entry into our world, highlighting His divine nature and profound love for humanity.

Just as he made up his mind to follow through, a divine messenger came to him in a dream with a message from the Lord,

“But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.” (Matthew 1:20).

This indicates that the Holy Spirit was actively involved with God the Son right from the moment of His incarnation into human form, even from the point of His physical conception.

Jesus, before embarking on His public ministry, waited to receive the empowering presence of the Holy Spirit. This crucial moment marked the beginning of His impactful and transformative work among the people. Just as Jesus sought the guidance and strength of the Holy Spirit before ministering to others, we too can rely on the same source of power to carry out our own calling with purpose and effectiveness.

In Luke 1:35, in the Annunciation, before the birth of Jesus, the angel tells Mary that her child “shall be called the Son of God”. In Luke 4:41 (and Mark 3:11), when Jesus casts out demons, they fall down before him, and declare: “You are the Son of God.”

Jesus Christ was conceived of the Holy Spirit, as revealed in the Bible. This miraculous event signifies the divine nature of Jesus and his unique role in the salvation of humanity. The virgin birth of Jesus demonstrates the power and authority of God, who works in mysterious ways to fulfill his plans for redemption and reconciliation. Through the Holy Spirit, God brought forth his Son into the world, embodying the fullness of grace and truth for all who believe. Jesus, as the Son of God, offers hope, forgiveness, and eternal life to those who accept him as their Lord and Savior.

The concept of immaculate conception has long been a topic of fascination and belief among many. The idea that a divine being, free from the stain of original sin, could be brought into existence through the Holy Spirit is a testament to the power and grace of God. This miraculous event has inspired countless individuals throughout history to reflect on the mysteries of faith and the boundless love of the Creator.
the Lord Jesus Christ

It is truly remarkable that a Saviour of such divine nature, offering a salvation so profound, would descend into the human realm through the Spirit, connecting with us on a level beyond comprehension. As the creed declares, the Lord Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit

Obedience to Jesus' Words

The Call to Know and Obey

In John 15:14-16, Jesus emphasizes the importance of knowing and obeying His words as a demonstration of our love for God. He explains that true friendship with Him is evidenced by our desire to follow His commandments. This relationship is not merely about verbal declarations of love but is proven through our actions and obedience. The Holy Spirit, given to believers, aids in this journey by teaching, convicting, and guiding us to live in accordance with God’s will. Therefore, to truly love God is to keep His commandments, reflecting our commitment and devotion to Him.

The Promise of the Holy Spirit

Understanding John 14:16: The Gift of the Holy Spirit

John 14:15-17
“If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. If ye love me, keep my commandments. And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”
When Jesus said “ask in my name,” he was instructing us to direct our prayer requests to our Father in his name. This means that we are to pray for the same things Jesus is asking the Father for, or what Jesus has specifically instructed us to ask for in his written teachings.

In prayer, our requests must align with God’s character and His will for them to be granted.

Scripture instructs us to bring our prayers to God and request anything in His name, Jesus, knowing that all will be done for God’s glory, not our own. By asking in His name, we demonstrate our faith and reliance on God’s divine plan.
Jesus promises to fulfill any prayer made in his name with the intention of glorifying the Father through him. However, if a prayer, despite being said in Jesus’ name, does not align with the purpose of glorifying the Father through Christ, Jesus will not grant it.
Jesus eases his disciples’ anxiety by reassuring them, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God, believe also in me” (14:1). He emphasizes the importance of trust in their relationship and assures them that he is not abandoning them, but rather returning to his Father, bringing them good news.
A collection of parables serving as an uplifting message to the disciples amidst grave warnings. These parables include gentle reminders that Jesus has plans to reunite them with Him, the comforting affirmation that He is “the way,” and the initial explicit assurances of the imminent arrival of the Holy Spirit.

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6

Looking at the world’s corruption and division, countless Christians today turn to God, recognizing that only He has the power to transform hearts and circumstances. His Spirit is what we seek, as we understand the profound impact He has had in changing us through His voice and presence. We yearn for the same transformation in the lives of those dear to us and in our communities.
Crying out to God through prayer and song has a rich biblical history, from the Psalms to the New Testament. Like David and others, we can lay our requests before him, especially the need for the Holy Spirit’s presence in our lives and gatherings. Anointed songs can also be a prayer, offering a powerful and intimate connection with the divine (Psalm 42:8).
Salvation through Jesus is the exclusive path to heaven as stated in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Good deeds, chants, or sacrifices has not any hope at all of getting anyone anywhere near God.

Thank you father for the many blessings I receive
