Will-One In Spirit

Embracing Our Divine Unity In Love

Beloved disciples, let us take a moment to reflect on the profound truth of our unity in Christ. In John 17, our Lord prayed earnestly for us, that we might be one as He and the Father are one. It is a call that transcends mere agreement or superficial connections. This oneness is rooted in our shared faith and love, which binds us together in a divine purpose. When we think about unity, we must acknowledge that it is not simply about aligning our thoughts or doctrines; rather, it is about embodying the very essence of God’s love in our relationships.

The Apostle Paul, in his letter to the Corinthians, implores the church to speak the same thing, to avoid divisions and to be perfectly joined together. His words resonate with the heartbeat of God’s desire for His people. Are we not called to reflect the unity of the Godhead? How, then, can we allow earthly divisions to hinder the beautiful tapestry of our faith? We must understand that these divisions stem from human pride and misunderstanding, never from the divine will of our Father who sees us all as His beloved children.

As believers, we are already united in Christ, and this should fill our hearts with hope and determination. Consider for a moment how much more effective we would be as vessels of God’s grace if we truly embraced our oneness. The world is watching. They are waiting to see if our lives reflect the love of Christ. As we walk in unity, we wield the greatest tool of evangelism there is—our love for one another. This is the message that declares to the world that Jesus is indeed the Son of God, sent to reconcile us to the Father.

Yet, my dear brethren, we find ourselves facing a formidable enemy who seeks to sow discord among us. Satan loves nothing more than to see believers at odds with one another. We can spend countless resources on evangelism, yet if our hearts are not aligned, our efforts may falter. The unity we have in the Spirit must be actively pursued; it requires our commitment and intentionality. We must let love govern our interactions, fostering an environment where differences are respected, and our shared identity in Christ is celebrated.

Today, we stand at a crossroads. The call to greater unity is not an insurmountable challenge but rather an opportunity to demonstrate the transformative power of God’s love. We may not achieve perfect unity in our lifetime, but we must strive diligently for it. Remember, it is through striving together in love that we will begin to peel back the layers of division crafted by our own hands. The beauty of the body of Christ is that though we may have differing opinions and experiences, we are still one in Him.

As we reflect on the coming of God’s kingdom, we must earnestly pray for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Heaven knows no divisions, and it is the desire of our hearts that we see the reflection of that divine unity in our communities today. Let us encourage one another and hold fast to the incredible truth that we are already one in Spirit. May we actively seek to bring that reality into our daily lives, showing a watching world the beauty of life lived in love and unity. Beloved, let us commit to this journey together, ever seeking the heart of Christ and the unity that He so passionately prayed for.

United In Christ's Love

One In Spirit

John 17:21 ‘That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.’
Jesus is praying for all believers to be one as He and the Father are one.

This transcends the superficial notions of unity often advocated in contemporary discourse. The Apostle Paul urged the Corinthians to universally articulate the same sentiments and to eliminate any schisms among them, emphasizing the necessity of being cohesively united in thought and judgment as stated in 1 Corinthians 1:10. This encapsulates the divine benchmark for true unity.

The unity among believers is the essence of what Jesus taught would lead the world to recognize Him as the Son of God, serving as the most powerful instrument for evangelism available to the church. The only pathway for Christ’s body to achieve this oneness, mirroring the unity between the Father and Jesus, is through the divine love that God embodies. It is no surprise that Satan endeavors to instigate discord among believers, as despite our investments of billions in evangelistic efforts across television, radio, conventions, and crusades, the world remains unreached; this lack of evangelization stems from the disunity of the body of Christ in love.

The lack of unity among believers is a significant challenge we face today, a challenge that has developed over many centuries, and one that is unlikely to be resolved quickly. While it is essential for us to actively pursue unity, we must not allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by the magnitude of the issue. As Christians, we have already been united through the body of Christ, and God the Father views all of us as His beloved children. The divisions we witness among Christians are fundamentally human-made, not divine. There was a time, albeit brief, when the church experienced a remarkable sense of unity on earth. In spite of the strife and division that may have arisen since then, it remains true that all believers are one in Christ, destined to share in perfect harmony for eternity. We are united in Spirit and are called to manifest this oneness in our lives here on earth.

‘Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven’ (Mt. 6:10).

Embracing The Holy Spirit

Embrace The Holy Spirit

John 16:7 ‘Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.’

The Greek word translated ‘expedient’ means ‘to be an advantage; profitable.’

How could any situation be more advantageous or profitable than having Jesus physically with you?

When Jesus walked on this earth in His physical body, He was subject to many physical limitations. For instance, He could not always be with every one of His disciples all the time. Through the ministry of the Holy Spirit, He could. Instead of Satan getting rid of Jesus, 120 ‘little Christs’ (that is literally what the word ‘Christian’ means) came out of the upper room on the day of Pentecost.

Jesus taught His disciples as no teacher ever had, yet they had very little understanding because they were not born again. However, when the Holy Spirit came, He lead them into all truth and even showed them things to come.

The list of advantages of having the Holy Spirit in us as compared to having Jesus with us in His physical body, goes on and on. The advantages can all be summed up in that Jesus’ power is now complete (Mt. 28:18) and no longer confined to one physical body.

There is no such thing as victorious Christian living without a moment by moment, hour by hour, day by day dependence upon the Spirit of God. Not only is the Christian life hard to live but it is impossible to live without the power of God Himself.

Exploring the Intersection of Faith and Reason

The Most Controversial Questions About God and the Bible

Dive deep into the profound questions that challenge our understanding of faith, science, and morality. This page offers a comprehensive exploration of the most debated topics surrounding God and the Bible, providing insights and perspectives to enrich your spiritual journey.

Creation vs. Evolution

The debate between the Biblical account of creation in Genesis and the scientific theory of evolution is one of the most enduring and complex discussions in theology and science. On one side, the Genesis narrative describes a divine creation of the world in six days, emphasizing a literal interpretation that underscores the omnipotence of God. On the other side, the theory of evolution, supported by extensive scientific evidence, suggests that life on Earth developed over billions of years through natural selection and genetic mutation.

This debate raises significant questions about how to interpret the Bible. A literal interpretation insists on the historical and factual accuracy of the Genesis account, often leading to a rejection of evolutionary theory. Conversely, a symbolic or allegorical interpretation views the Genesis narrative as a theological and moral story rather than a scientific account, allowing for a reconciliation with evolutionary theory.

The implications of this debate are profound, influencing educational policies, religious beliefs, and the perceived relationship between science and faith. Ultimately, it challenges individuals to consider how they integrate their spiritual beliefs with scientific understanding, fostering a deeper exploration of both realms.

Existence of God

The Fundamental Question of God's Existence

The question of God’s existence is a cornerstone of theological and philosophical inquiry. It delves into the nature of faith, reason, and evidence, prompting profound reflections on the human experience and the universe. Faith, by its nature, often transcends empirical evidence, relying on personal belief, spiritual experiences, and religious teachings.

Philosophical arguments for the existence of God, such as the cosmological argument, the teleological argument, and the moral argument, offer rational justifications for belief in a divine creator. These arguments suggest that the existence of the universe, the complexity of life, and the presence of moral values point towards a higher power.

Conversely, empirical evidence and scientific inquiry often challenge these arguments, emphasizing the need for observable and testable proof. This tension between faith and empirical evidence creates a dynamic and ongoing dialogue, encouraging individuals to explore their beliefs and the reasons behind them.

Ultimately, the question of God’s existence invites a personal journey of discovery, where faith and reason intersect, and where the search for truth becomes a deeply individual and transformative experience.

The Problem of Evil

The Problem of Evil is a profound theological and philosophical issue that questions how a benevolent and omnipotent God can coexist with suffering and evil in the world. This paradox is central to theodicy, the study of divine justice. The Bible addresses this issue in various passages, such as Job 1:21-22, where Job acknowledges God’s sovereignty despite his suffering. Additionally, Romans 8:28 reassures believers that God works all things for good for those who love Him. Scholars and theologians have proposed several explanations, including the free will defense, which argues that God allows evil to exist as a consequence of human free will, and the soul-making theodicy, which suggests that suffering serves as a means for spiritual growth and development.

Historicity of Biblical Events

Investigating Biblical Authenticity

The historicity of key Biblical events, such as the Exodus and the Resurrection of Jesus, has been a subject of scholarly debate for centuries. The Exodus, described in the Book of Exodus, recounts the Israelites’ escape from Egypt and their journey to the Promised Land. While some archaeological evidence supports aspects of this narrative, its complete historical accuracy remains contested. Similarly, the Resurrection of Jesus, a cornerstone of Christian faith, is detailed in the Gospels (e.g., Matthew 28:1-10, Mark 16:1-8, Luke 24:1-12, John 20:1-18). While historical evidence for the Resurrection is debated, its theological significance is undisputed among believers. Scholars examine these events through historical, archaeological, and textual analysis to understand their authenticity and implications.  The truth of sacred narratives remains steadfast amidst the questions raised by human understanding, for the faith of those who believe shall not waver. Though some may challenge the authenticity of ancient accounts and the miraculous events within, the divine essence of these stories nurtures the soul and illuminates the path for the faithful. In the hearts of believers, the profound teachings of these moments transcend mere historical debate, becoming timeless principles that guide and inspire generations, reminding us that the essence of faith lies not solely in evidence of things seen but in the transformative power of those things not seen, of belief and the hope it brings to humanity.

Morality and Biblical Laws

The relevance and interpretation of Biblical laws in contemporary society are topics of ongoing discussion, particularly concerning issues like gender roles, sexuality, and social justice. Biblical laws, found in books such as Leviticus and Deuteronomy, provided guidelines for the ancient Israelites. For instance, Leviticus 19:18 emphasizes loving one’s neighbor, a principle echoed by Jesus in Matthew 22:39. However, some laws, such as those regarding gender roles and sexuality, are viewed differently today. For example, 1 Timothy 2:12 discusses women’s roles in the church, which has led to diverse interpretations and practices among Christian denominations. The challenge lies in discerning which laws are culturally specific and which are timeless moral principles, a task that requires careful theological and ethical consideration.

The Divinity of Jesus: Theological Perspectives

The question of Jesus’ divinity is central to Christian theology. Various interpretations exist regarding his nature and relationship to God. Some view Jesus as fully divine, co-equal with God the Father, as articulated in the Nicene Creed. Others see him as a divinely inspired prophet or a unique human being with a special relationship to God. These differing views have led to significant doctrinal debates throughout Christian history, influencing the development of various denominations and theological schools of thought.

Interpreting End Times Prophecies

The Book of Revelation and other prophetic texts in the Bible have long been sources of fascination and controversy. Interpretations of these prophecies vary widely, from literal readings that predict specific future events to more symbolic understandings that see them as metaphors for spiritual truths. These differing interpretations have led to a range of eschatological views, including premillennialism, postmillennialism, and amillennialism. Each perspective offers a unique understanding of the end times and the return of Jesus, contributing to ongoing theological debates.

The Role of Women in Biblical Teachings

The role and status of women in the Bible is a topic of significant debate. Some passages, such as those in Paul’s epistles, have been interpreted to suggest that women should be submissive and not hold leadership roles within the church. However, other parts of the Bible, including the stories of Deborah, Esther, and Mary Magdalene, highlight the important and influential roles women have played in biblical history. These differing interpretations continue to fuel discussions about gender roles and equality within both religious and secular contexts.

Science and Miracles: A Harmonious Intersection

The relationship between science and the miraculous events described in the Bible is a fascinating area of exploration. While science seeks to understand the natural world through empirical evidence and observation, faith embraces the divine and the supernatural. Biblical miracles, such as the Virgin Birth (Matthew 1:18-25) and Jesus walking on water (Matthew 14:22-33), challenge our understanding of natural laws. However, these events can also be seen as moments where divine intervention intersects with the natural world, inviting believers to see beyond the empirical and into the realm of the miraculous. This intersection encourages a deeper reflection on the nature of faith and the mysteries of the universe.

“Embracing the Gifts of the Holy Spirit: Navigating Life’s Journey with Divine Wisdom”

Disciples, as we come together in this sacred space—both physically and spiritually—we are reminded of the richness of the gifts bestowed upon us by the Holy Spirit. We are here not simply to learn but to be transformed by the divine presence that empowers us, renewing us for the work of the Kingdom. This is a journey that we embark on together, a journey that leads us not only to deeper knowledge but to a more intimate and powerful relationship with our Creator.

We know that life presents its challenges, its trials, and its unknowns. Yet, through the Holy Spirit, we are equipped with all we need to stand firm in faith and walk in victory. We are reminded of the scripture in Romans 12:6-8, which speaks to the diversity of gifts among us, each one given to fulfill God’s purposes. Each of us has a role to play in the body of Christ, and it is through these gifts that we navigate the complexities of life, empowered by His wisdom and love.

Consider Proverbs 2:6, where we read, “For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” What a powerful reminder that all wisdom flows from God! In our world, where so many voices call for our attention, how vital it is to listen to the voice of the Spirit, guiding us with clarity, direction, and truth. How often do we seek wisdom from sources that lead us astray, or rely on our own understanding when we should be seeking His guidance first? Today, I challenge you—let the Holy Spirit lead you in your decision-making. Seek divine wisdom, and let your choices reflect His perfect will for your life.

Embrace the Gift of Wisdom:
In James 1:5, we are reminded that “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” There is no shame in seeking wisdom—God delights in giving us wisdom! But, how often do we allow ourselves to be distracted, relying on our own limited understanding rather than tapping into the unlimited wisdom of our Creator? Today, we ask God for wisdom. We seek understanding that goes beyond human knowledge and into divine revelation.

As we move forward in our study, let us also recognize that wisdom and understanding are closely intertwined. Ephesians 1:17 prays for the “spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.” This is the essence of our spiritual renewal—the more we grow in knowledge of God, the more we understand His will for our lives, and with that understanding comes the strength to carry out His purpose. But what is understanding, and how do we cultivate it?

Seek Understanding:
Understanding, in the context of our spiritual journey, means a deeper grasp of God’s truth, and His Word. In Proverbs 3:5-6, we are instructed, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” This passage invites us to trust fully in the Lord and to surrender our own limited understanding. It challenges us to take the time to seek understanding through prayer, study, and reflection on His Word, knowing that He will make our paths straight.

We also know that the gifts of the Holy Spirit empower us to be a light in the world, as we apply what we have learned. Let us remember the words of Romans 12:6-8—our gifts are not for ourselves alone. They are given for the edification of the Body of Christ. As we grow in wisdom and understanding, we are called to apply those gifts in service to others, building up the church and spreading the love of Christ to those around us.

Fortitude and Strength:
I want to highlight the gift of fortitude, or courage. The Spirit empowers us to stand firm in faith, to endure in the face of trials, and to remain steadfast even when challenges arise. Philippians 4:13 reminds us, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” This is the promise we hold onto as we walk through life’s ups and downs. It is through Christ that we have the strength to persevere and to overcome. This is the fortitude we need, not just to survive, but to thrive.

Let us not forget the importance of piety—a deep reverence for God. This gift fosters in us a heart that loves God deeply and seeks to honor Him in all we do. As we grow in piety, we develop a sensitivity to His voice, a desire to be in His presence, and an awareness of His holiness. Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” His Word illuminates the way, and it is our piety—our devotion to Him—that draws us closer to that light.

Fear of the Lord:
As we walk in His presence, we must also cultivate the gift of the fear of the Lord—a profound respect and awe for God’s majesty. It is this fear that keeps us humble before Him, understanding that He is sovereign over all. Isaiah 11:2 speaks of the Spirit of the Lord that rests upon us, giving us wisdom, understanding, counsel, and the fear of the Lord. It is this fear that leads to wisdom and guides our actions in all things.

Closing Prayer:
Lord, as we conclude this time of teaching and reflection, we pray that You would continue to fill us with Your Holy Spirit. Empower us to walk boldly in the gifts You have given, knowing that we are equipped for every challenge, every decision, and every moment of our journey. May Your wisdom guide us, Your understanding deepen us, and Your strength sustain us. We pray for each disciple here and for Your Church around the world, that we would be a light in the darkness, and that Your glory would be revealed through us. In the name of Jesus, our Savior and High Priest, we pray. Amen.

Final Thoughts:
We are on this journey together—disciples, guests, elders, and leaders—learning, growing, and being transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. Let us not forget that we are equipped for every step. Our growth is not just for our benefit, but for the edification of the entire Body of Christ. May we embrace the gifts of the Spirit, walk in His wisdom, and live lives marked by divine strength, love, and courage.

Knowing God’s Will Is Not Enough

Luke 24:49
And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.’

This filling of the Holy Ghost is subsequent to the born-again experience.

Paul reveals in Rom. 10:9, that a person has to confess with his mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in his heart that Jesus was raised from the dead, before he can be saved.

It is possible to be saved, yet not have what Jesus said was the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Since the Holy Spirit is now given freely and we don’t have to tarry for His coming, we can receive salvation and the baptism of the Holy Spirit at the same time. However, it is not automatic. We must ask and believe for the baptism of the Holy Ghost, just as we believed for salvation.

Speaking in tongues is unique to the Church Age. This is because when a person speaks in tongues, his new born-again spirit is speaking (1 Cor. 14:14), not his mind. Before salvation, our spirit was the part of us that was, ‘dead in trespasses and sins.’ Until we received a new spirit (2 Cor. 5:17), the Holy Ghost could not give us this supernatural communication with the Father.

There are two kinds of speaking in tongues which are clearly spoken of in 1 Corinthians 13:1. They are called ‘the tongues of men and of angels.’ The tongues of men are the known languages in which the disciples spoke. The tongues of angels, or heavenly languages, are the tongues that all Spirit-filled believers can speak, and are what Paul spoke about in 1 Corinthians 12-14.

Jesus said that the Holy Spirit would lead us into all truth and teach us all things. Receiving the baptism of the Holy Ghost is the single most important key to receiving revelation knowledge from God.

Preserving the Purity of the Gospel

The Gospel’s Unyielding Truth
In these times, the Gospel stands as a beacon of unwavering truth amidst a sea of confusion and compromise. As we navigate a world that often seeks to dilute the message of Christ, we are reminded of the importance of upholding the purity of His Word. The Gospel, in its unaltered form, is a testament to God’s love and righteousness, offering hope and salvation to all who believe. Yet, we face challenges from those who wish to reshape its message to fit modern narratives. It is our duty to guard against such distortions and ensure that the truth of the Gospel remains clear and accessible to all who seek it. Let us hold fast to the teachings of Christ, as they are the foundation of our faith and the light that guides us through the darkness.

Questions for Reflection
Contemplating the State of Truth
As we ponder the current state of truth in our world, let us consider these questions: How do we discern the true Gospel amidst the noise of conflicting messages? What steps can we take to ensure that the purity of God’s Word is not compromised by external influences? Are we prepared to stand firm in our faith, even when it means going against the tide of popular opinion? How can we, as followers of Christ, actively participate in the restoration of truth in our communities? Let these questions challenge us to reflect deeply on our role in preserving the integrity of the Gospel and inspire us to take action in our daily lives.
