Believers receive all they need in Christ. Upon salvation, they become whole in Him, lacking nothing. There is nothing more that He has to offer us.

Believers are not required to seek any additional blessing for power, as all power is already accessible.

The power of the Holy Spirit working in a person’s life is truly something to be desired. For those who have genuinely experienced the Spirit’s power, they often refer to it as the baptism with the Holy Spirit, while the Scripture refers to this encounter as the filling of the Holy Spirit. As mentioned before, everything has already been provided for us upon conversion, and all we need to do is to appropriate what God has graciously done for us.

Establishing two separate and distinct baptisms is questionable given the biblical references that point to the unity of the activity. Acts 2:33 and Ephesians 4:5 emphasize the singular nature of baptism, reflecting Christ’s work through the Spirit’s ministry to unite believers with the body of Christ. The involvement of different Persons of the Trinity in this work highlights the cohesiveness and importance of this sacrament in the life of the church.

It is generally agreed that the references in the gospels look forward to the baptism with the Holy Spirit occurring at the Day of Pentecost. The references in Acts point back to the fulfillment. This being the case, the reference in 1 Corinthians 12:13 seemingly gives the doctrinal explanation of what occurred. Though it is possible to see two separate baptisms, it seems better to understand all the references explaining the same experience in more depth and detail.

Two Baptisms?

He who believes in Me, as the Word has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water. But this He spoke concerning the Spirit whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified (John 7:38-39).

In prayer, our requests must align with God’s character and His will for them to be granted.

Scripture instructs us to bring our prayers to God and request anything in His name, Jesus, knowing that all will be done for God’s glory, not our own. By asking in His name, we demonstrate our faith and reliance on God’s divine plan.
Jesus promises to fulfill any prayer made in his name with the intention of glorifying the Father through him. However, if a prayer, despite being said in Jesus’ name, does not align with the purpose of glorifying the Father through Christ, Jesus will not grant it.

Salvation through Jesus is the exclusive path to heaven as stated in John 14:6, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Good deeds, chants, or sacrifices has not any hope at all of getting anyone anywhere near God.

Embracing the Abundance of God's Grace

The parable of the friend at midnight shows us that we can come and talk to God at any time.

Why is it important that our Father is in heaven? Having a heavenly Father means we are part of God’s family, receiving eternal life and adoption through Jesus. This has significant implications, as His children, we are assured of His love.
To glorify God is to embody the essence of being “the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world.” Jesus reminds us that we are not tasked with becoming salt and light; instead, we are called to embrace and live out the truth that we already are salt and light. Therefore, let us boldly and unapologetically shine as the Salt and radiate as the Light that we inherently are meant to be.
The term indebted here refers to what someone owes because of a sin. By requesting that God forgive our sins, we acknowledge that we don’t deserve His mercy. If we don’t deserve His mercy and yet boldly request it, we must be willing to offer that same mercy to others.
The parable of the friend at midnight shows us that we can come and talk to God at any time. It doesn’t matter if it’s early in the morning or the middle of the night. We should pray to Him with confidence that He will hear us. We should continue to pray until we get an answer.

In the heartwarming parable, a kind man, faced with the unexpected arrival of a friend on a long journey, found himself in a predicament when he realized he had no food to offer his guest. Determined to show hospitality, the man hastily made his way to his neighbor’s house under the cloak of midnight and humbly requested some bread to share with his visitor. Initially met with reluctance, the neighbor hesitated to part with any of his provisions. Undeterred, the man persevered, persistently knocking on the door and appealing for assistance. Moved by the man’s unwavering determination and genuine need, the neighbor eventually relented, rising from his bed to provide the man with the sustenance he sought.

Jesus continues, “And I tell you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. Then, it seems that He gives another, smaller parable: “What father among you, if his son asks for a fish, will instead of a fish give him a serpent; or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

The boundless grace of God was displayed when He paid the ultimate price for our freedom with the precious blood of His Son, wiping away all our sins. This incredible gift was freely bestowed upon you when you placed your trust in Him. You did not earn it, nor were you deserving of it. And yet, His generosity knows no bounds as He continues to shower us with even more grace, kindness, wisdom, and insight. Truly, our God is worthy of all praise, for His love for the world led Him to give His only Son to save us all.

Understanding Grace

The Biblical Definition of Grace

Grace, in the biblical sense, is often described as the unmerited favor, kindness, and mercy of God. It is a central theme in Christianity, representing God’s freely given love and assistance to humanity. This divine grace is not something that can be earned through deeds or actions; rather, it is a gift bestowed upon us by God. Sin is a natural inclination, while righteousness demands my real intentional focus. By diligently following God’s Word and seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit, I strive to align my thoughts and actions with His will. Despite my tendency to err, I find solace in the opportunity to confess, learn, and grow from my mistakes, knowing that the Lord’s forgiveness is unwavering and abundant. Grace abounds in greater measure than my shortcomings.

I as we, have committed sins in the past, I continue to sin, and I know that I will sin in the future. It seems that I can often choose to do the wrong thing and neglect to do what is right, despite my keen desire to always do what is just. I find comfort in the knowledge that God is willing to forgive me every time I seek repentance. I firmly believe that all my sins, whether they be from the past, present, or future, will be absolved once I put my faith in Christ.  I love God and it truly grieves me to go against any of His wishes.

God’s Favor Is Forgiveness And Grace
By repenting, I not only have all my sins forgiven but also receive the supernatural ability to forgive others for their wrongdoings, whether they are small, major, or once seen as unforgivable. God guides me in extending forgiveness where it is needed most.

I have come to understand that forgiveness is achievable even in the face of great pain. Instances exist where individuals have pardoned others for acts as severe as murder. Even Jesus himself uttered the words, “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do,” while on the cross. This type of merciful forgiveness does not excuse the gravity of the offense, but rather offers a space for the wrongdoer to seek repentance if they so desire.

Forgiveness is a powerful act that requires divine strength, as my natural inclination leans towards revenge or despair. It is through God that I am able to embrace forgiveness as a guiding principle in my life.

Every day offers a fresh start, allowing me to learn from past mistakes and strive to embody the qualities of the Spirit. With His guidance, I am constantly presented with new chances to grow and improve in my thoughts and actions to better display the fruits of the Spirit. (Galatians 5:22-23)

Instead of focusing solely on myself, I can shift my attention to caring for others. Rather than allowing anxiety to consume me, I can embrace a sense of peace and joy. Instead of impatiently tapping my foot, I can practice patience. With God’s grace, I am empowered to exhibit kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and gentleness in my actions.

Grace provides me with the liberation to release myself from the burdens of society’s judgment. It enables me to embrace the essence of my true self, untainted by the falsehoods perpetuated by the world. I no longer feel the need to seek validation from others, as my sole purpose is to remain steadfast in my devotion to the Creator who fashioned me with unwavering love. There is no need for me to prove my worth, for I am already cherished beyond measure.

I am a unique creation, intricately designed by God with a specific purpose in mind. By studying His Word, I gain clarity on my life’s mission and can confidently pursue it. Embracing the freedom that comes from knowing and following the Son, I am able to live out my true identity and purpose without reservation.

If the Son sets me free, I am truly liberated. Experience the freedom found in John 8:36.

God promised to be with me at all times. His Holy Spirit will counsel me, guide me, and prompt me with wisdom as I navigate through each day. His presence in every present moment gives me hope and assurance for a bright and promising future ahead. Even amidst the inevitable trials and challenges that I will face, He stands by my side, offering his unwavering support to help me overcome obstacles and create a positive impact in my surroundings. Jesus forewarned that in this world, I will encounter numerous trials and experience sorrows, but with His victory over the world (John 16:33), I can find comfort and strength. The uncertainties of life become more bearable when I have a comforting hand to hold onto. This is the essence of grace – the profound assurance that I am never alone.

Remember that grace is a gift freely given to you by God. When you approach Him in sincere prayer, He will always provide for your needs abundantly. Let go of the worry of what you may deserve, and instead, receive the overflowing grace that surpasses all expectations.

“Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?
Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?
If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?” (Matthew 7:9-11)

The five solas of the Reformation, which distinguished the Reformers from the teachings of Rome, include sola scriptura (Scripture alone) – emphasizing the authority of the Bible as the ultimate source of truth, solus Christus (Christ alone) – highlighting Jesus Christ as the only mediator between God and humanity, sola fide (faith alone) – underscoring that salvation comes through faith in Christ alone, sola gratia (grace alone) – pointing to the belief that salvation is by grace alone apart from any merit on our part, and soli Deo gloria (glory to God alone) – giving all praise and honor to God alone for our salvation.

Disciples must always remember that the scriptures are unchangeable and absolute Truth. Throughout history, there have been attempts to mold God into a more relatable figure, but we must remember that God’s word is final and cannot be altered by human desires. We must humble ourselves before the truth that we do not have the power to create or change God.

Catholics and Protestants both recognize Scripture as the ultimate truth source, while also honoring the authority of apostolic Tradition and the Church. The Bible does not contradict this belief. Baptist churches adhere to soul competency, salvation through faith alone, scripture as the sole rule of faith, and congregational church governance.

The concept of sola scriptura, the belief that the scriptures are the sole authority for Christian faith and practice, is deemed self-referentially incoherent because the Bible itself does not explicitly teach sola scriptura. This leads to a contradiction of relying solely on scripture for belief, as it requires additional non-scriptural doctrines to support the idea.
